NetScreens are not connected to the Internet

Solution:

When testing in a lab environment, where the Internet is not involved, CRL checking must be disabled

Here is the problem or goal:

  • VPN not working with certificates
  • Debug ike message: re-trans timer expired, msg retry (11) (521f/2)

Problem Environment:

  • NetScreens are not connected to the Internet
  • NetScreens are in a lab environment
  • Untrust interface of one NetScreen directly connected to untrust interface of other NetScreen

Causes of this problem:

  • VPN with certificates will be checking the CRL for validity of certificates.  It will have to check the DNS for verification.  Since it is in a lab environment, and DNS is not configured, the certificate check will fail.
