Summary:
Upgrade via TFTP Boot/Diag Mode Fails Through a Switch
Symptoms:
TFTP server and NetScreen self IP address on same subnet
NetScreen trust interface connected to switch
Administration PC connected to switch

Solution:

When the NetScreen device is in the Boot/Diag mode, the NetScreen cannot negotiate a duplex mode. With the switch running a spanning tree, it normally tries to negotiate the duplex mode.

To resolve the upgrade via TFTP Boot/Diag mode failure through a switch issue, perform the following steps:

Remove the Ethernet cable from the NetScreen device to the switch.Connect the Trust interface cable directly to the administration PC.Upgrade the ScreenOS via the Boot/Diag mode.
