[Archive] Cannot upgrade to ScreenOS 3.0.0

Article ID: KB5538 KB Last Updated: 11 Aug 2010Version: 3.0
Cannot upgrade to ScreenOS 3.0.0
Currently running ScreenOS 2.6.1 Upgrade from WebUI System Message: The uploaded file can't be recognized as a valid software image file.  Please double check with your supplier Console Message:Maximum firmware size is 1572864 (attempted size is 1678312) Image too big (1646049 for Flash memory Attempted to upgrade from ScreenOS 2.6.1 to ScreenOS 3.0.3

If the NetScreen is currently at ScreenOS 2.6.1, to upgrade to ScreenOS 3.0.0r1 or higher, an intermediate ScreenOS version 3.0.0up.9 must be installed first.  This is not an operational ScreenOS version, and its sole purpose is to modify memory registers to allow an operational version of ScreenOS 3.0.0 to run on the NetScreen.  The error message occurred because there was not enough memory to squeeze in the code, so the up.9 image modifies the memory so that this image can be loaded.

ScreenOS 3.0.0up.9 comes with every ScreenOS 3.0.x download.

Note: Upgrading a NetScreen-5XP from 2.6.0r1.4 requires going to 2.6.1 first, before going to 3.0.0.
