[Archive] How to change the NetScreen's console output without paging?

Article ID: KB5699 KB Last Updated: 21 Dec 2017Version: 4.0
How to change the NetScreen's console output to scroll without paging or user intervention?

When gathering the CLI command "get tech-support" information from a NetScreen device, (via telnet or console port) the CLI console output pages every 20 lines and a "key" must be hit to continue to display more of the CLI console output.

Should the "console" get locked up due to a continuous output, one of the following must be performed in order to "break" this condition:

  1. Enter CTL-C or Q (for quit) several times to see if the continuous console output will stop and return to the CLI prompt.
  2. Perform a "hard" reset (power cycle) on the NetScreen device.  After re-boot, you should be able to login to the NetScreen device.

By default, the NetScreen CLI console output pages at every 20 lines.  In order to "disable" console output paging, enter the following CLI command:

ssg-> set console page 0 [Enter]

After setting the parameter to 0, the CLI console output display will no longer page; a continuous output of all information will display to the console screen.  Allowing you to gather all CLI command console information a lot quicker via telnet or through the NetScreen's console port.  When finished, the CLI prompt should return after all output has displayed to the screen.

Note: Important! After gathering ALL wanted CLI command information, set the console page back to default setting of 20 lines with the following CLI command or else you could easily lock-up the console port or ALL management to the NetScreen IF a "large" continuous console output is executed on the CLI. (snoop, debug flow, etc.):

ssg-> unset console page [Enter]
