[ScreenOS] How to enable and check the OSPF status

This article provides information on how to enable and check the OSPF status on ScreenOS firewalls.


What is the basic configuration to enable OSPF on the vrouter and interface?


To establish an OSPF adjacency with other OSPF routers or firewalls, the following options need to be enabled:

  • Enable OSPF protocol on a specific virtual router.
  • Enable OSPF on a specific interface.


To configure the Ethernet3 interface on the ScreenOS firewall to form the adjacency with the upstream router; which is running OSPF in area 0:

Via the command line interface (CLI):

set vr untrust-vr protocol ospf [Enter]
set vr untrust-vr protocol ospf enable[Enter]
set interface eth3 protocol ospf area [Enter]
set interface eth3 protocol ospf enable[Enter]

To verify the OSPF configuration:

ns208-> get interface eth3 protocol ospf
VR: untrust-vr RouterId:
Interface: ethernet3
IpAddr:, OSPF: enabled, Router: enabled
Type: Ethernet  Area:  Priority: 1  Cost: 10
Transit delay: 1s  Retransmit interval: 5s  Hello interval: 10s
Router Dead interval: 40s  Authentication-Type: None
State: Designated Router  DR:  BDR:
        RtrId: IpAddr: Pri: 1 State: Full
