Summary:

This article provides information on how to enable and check the OSPF status on ScreenOS firewalls.

Symptoms:

What is the basic configuration to enable OSPF on the vrouter and interface?

Solution:

To establish an OSPF adjacency with other OSPF routers or firewalls, the following options need to be enabled:

  • Enable OSPF protocol on a specific virtual router.
  • Enable OSPF on a specific interface.

Example:

To configure the Ethernet3 interface on the ScreenOS firewall to form the adjacency with the upstream router; which is running OSPF in area 0:

Via the command line interface (CLI):

set vr untrust-vr protocol ospf [Enter]
set vr untrust-vr protocol ospf enable[Enter]
set interface eth3 protocol ospf area 0.0.0.0 [Enter]
set interface eth3 protocol ospf enable[Enter]

To verify the OSPF configuration:

ns208-> get interface eth3 protocol ospf
VR: untrust-vr RouterId: 2.2.2.1
----------------------------------
Interface: ethernet3
IpAddr: 2.2.2.1/24, OSPF: enabled, Router: enabled
Type: Ethernet Area: 0.0.0.0 Priority: 1 Cost: 10
Transit delay: 1s Retransmit interval: 5s Hello interval: 10s
Router Dead interval: 40s Authentication-Type: None
State: Designated Router DR: 2.2.2.1(self) BDR: 2.2.2.9
Neighbors:
RtrId: 8.8.8.1 IpAddr: 2.2.2.9 Pri: 1 State: Full
ns208->

Other useful commands:

  • get route [Enter]
  • get route proto ospf [Enter]
