Configuring Traffic Shaping to only inspect traffic priorities

Article ID: KB5826 KB Last Updated: 04 Oct 2011Version: 4.0
Configuring Traffic Shaping to only inspect traffic priorities
Traffic Shaping Bandwidth Management

Traffic shaping can be configured on the policy by only specifying Priority only.  When this is configured, the WebUI will show

  • gbw: 0 (no guarantees that a user will get any bandwidth > 0)
  • mbw: -1 (no bandwidth control, only limited to the interface bandwidth)

Traffic will be competing for existing bandwidth available on the untrust interface (assuming traffic is outbound).  Traffic matching a policy with high priority will get all the bandwidth.  If there is a gbw set, sessions with low priority will get this bandwidth, while higher priority traffic will get the rest of the bandwidth.
