Article ID: KB5857 KB Last Updated: 30 Aug 2010Version: 3.0
Summary:
OSPF stop working after changing the hello interval on the Netscreen
Symptoms:
OSPF neighbors are Cisco routers Change the hello interval from the default 10 seconds to 15 seconds
Solution:

The default hello interval is 10 seconds and the default dead interval is 40 seconds. When you change the hello interval to 15 seconds on the NetScreen, the dead interval remains at 40 seconds, but when you change the hello interval on the Cisco router to 15 seconds, the dead interval was automatically change to 60 seconds. The hello and dead interval must be the same on all neighboring ospf devices.

Example:
To change the hello and dead interval on the Ethernet1 interface to 15 seconds and 60 seconds respectively,

From the CLI:

Lab-> set interface ethernet1 protocol ospf hello-interval 15 [Enter]
Lab-> set interface ethernet1 protocol ospf dead-interval 60 [Enter]

To check the configuration:

Lab-> get interface ethernet1 protocol ospf [Enter]
