Differences in the Session Table between the Master & Slave running NSRP

Article ID: KB6180 KB Last Updated: 20 Feb 2009Version: 3.0
Summary:
Differences in the Session Table between the HA Master & Slave
Symptoms:
What are the differences between the Session Table of the Master & Slave in NSRP Active/Passive mode?

Solution:

The Master's session table can be different than the Slave's Session table. The Master can have both newly created sessions and existing sessions that are "refreshed", but the Slave will only have newly created sessions pushed from the Master times a multiplier.

In NSRP Active Passive mode, only newly created sessions will get pushed to the Slave's session table times a multiplier of 8. The session in the Master can be refreshed, BUT this same session that has been "pushed" to the slave's session table will not be. These sessions that are pushed to the Slave's Session table will not be refreshed, but will stay in the session table.

Once that session in the slave's session table expires, that session will be marked for "garbage" and cleared from the Slave's session table.

Also, once a session is closed on the master and marked for "cleanup", the corresponding session on the Slave will be closed and marked for "cleanup" as well and will be cleared from the session table.

Note:  For more information on how the session timeout is adjusted after a failover occurs, refer to KB10027.
