Netscreen BGP session cannot be established

0

0

Article ID: KB6215 KB Last Updated: 05 Jul 2010Version: 3.0
Summary:
Netscreen BGP session cannot be established
Symptoms:
BGP peers cannot establish the TCP session betweeen them and both sides stay in idle/active state.

The "debug bgp all" command reveal the following error message in the debug buffer:

' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '  ##2002-11-30 17:48:58 system-debugging: bgp trust-vr to 10.0.0.1 at OPEN_SENT state: rcv event RX_OPEN

From the command "get vrouter' [VIRTUAL_ROUTER_NAME] ' protocol bgp neighbor [NEIGHBOR_ROUTER_IP]", the following error code was observed:

' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '  last error code: 2, last subcode: 3

Solution:

Make sure all the BGP-speaking routers are assigned with a valid router ID which can be any interface IP address on the system. The following command can be used to assign a router ID for both BGP and OSPF:

set vrouter [VIRTUAL_ROUTER_NAME] router-id [ROUTER_ID_NUMBER]

Here is the problem or goal:

  • BGP peers cannot establish the TCP session between them and both sides stay in idle/active state.
  • The "debug bgp all" command reveal the following error message in the debug buffer:##2002-11-30 17:48:58 system-debugging: bgp trust-vr to 10.0.0.1 at OPEN_SENT state: rcv event RX_OPEN
  • From the command "get vrouter [VIRTUAL_ROUTER_NAME]  protocol bgp neighbor [NEIGHBOR_ROUTER_IP]", the following error code was observed:last error code: 2, last subcode: 3
  • Troubleshoot problem for establishing Netscreen BGP peer session

Causes of this problem:

  • The Netscreen devices were not assigned valid BGP router ID. Both Netscreen devices default their BGP router ID to the generic Vlan1 IP (192.168.1.1) on the systems, which thus causes the ID duplicate problem.
