[ScreenOS] No output on a console connection to a NetScreen device

Summary:

No output on a console connection to a NetScreen device.

Symptoms:
  • console cable
  • null modem cable
  • RS232 serial cable
  • Cisco cable
  • UPS cable
  • unable to get any output from a successful terminal connection was able to input to the terminal connection
Solution:

This solution applies to all NetScreen Appliance and System (Except to NetScreen 1000).

The correct console cable for a NetScreen appliance or system is an RS232 serial cable.  It is the same as a serial mouse extension cable. 

Do not use Cisco cable, a UPS cable or a Null Modem cable with NetScreen devices.  Some of the above cables will allow input, but do not provide output or vies versa.

The HyperTerminal settings are:

9600 bps
8 bit, no parity
1 stop bit
no flow control
