What Does the (I) Indicate on the CLI Prompt?
NSRP v2 Pair of NetScreen's with NSRP configured hostname (I)->
This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0.0 and later.

On the Command Line Interface (CLI) prompt, if the NetScreen devices are configured with NSRP, the host name is followed by the state of the device with respect to NSRP. The following are the three possible states:

  1. (M) - One or more Master
  2. (B) - VSD groups are in backup, primary backup, or inoperable mode
  3. (I) - One or more Inoperable

Master indicates that the selected device is the active device. This will allow throughput traffic across the device.

Backup indicates that the selected device is the backup or passive device. This device is ready to take over in the event the active device undergoes a failure.

Inoperable indicates that the selected device is not ready to take over in the event of a failure. The following are two possible reasons as to why the device may become inoperable:

  • An interface is being monitored for failure and there is not a good link on that interface.
  • Track IP is configured and it fails to communicate to the Track IP host.
