Article ID: KB6502 KB Last Updated: 24 Aug 2010Version: 3.0
Summary:
Why doesn't the Log Event report the current date and time when the system reboots?
Symptoms:
No administrator logged in at time of reboot NetScreen Device reboots time difference timestamp System shut down
Solution:

Log Event Scenario:
NetScreen rebooted unexpectedly and now "log events" show system was shutdown by admin:

Log Event:
2003-05-12 20:21:04 system notif 00767 System was shut down at 2003-04-04 16:42:13 by admin NetScreen

The NetScreen device records the time of last manual shutdown by an administrator.  This log message always populates as a normal notification message after each manual or unexpected bootup.

The time stamp of the message will be the same time as the reboot when an administrator manually resets the NetScreen. Otherwise, the time difference will indicate an unexpected reboot.
