[ScreenOS] Restrictions with aggregate ports on the NetScreen-5400

Article ID: KB6513 KB Last Updated: 27 Aug 2015Version: 4.0
Summary:

Restrictions with aggregate ports on the NetScreen-5400.

Symptoms:

How to define aggregate ports on the NetScreen-5400.

set int eth2/6 aggregate aggregate1
(Following error: cannot add interface eth2/6 to aggregate1, agg port mode 0, member port mode 1: Invalid value)

Solution:

When setting up aggregate ports or interfaces, configure them on the same board. The two ports cannot be on separate boards. For example, if you try to aggregate port 1 on slot 1 with port 2 on slot 2, you will run into problems. You can aggregate port 1 on slot 2 with port 2 on slot 2.

On the 8-Gig boards, you are still limited to aggregating the ports in pairs: 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8. For example, you cannot aggregate ports 1 and 3.

On the 8G2 and 8G2-G4 boards, you can configure any combination of ports 1-4 or 5-8.

Additionally, when you configure aggregate ports, the phy interfaces must be configured identically. They must all be configured with phy manual or phy auto. For example, if you aggregate e2/5 and e2/6, then e2/5 and e2/6 must be configured as phy auto or phy manual, but cannot be combined. If e2/5 is set to auto, and e2/6 is set to manual, you will run into problems.
