Summary:

Why Don't I Receive Email Alerts?

Symptoms:
Environment:
  • Email server online
  • NetScreen configured to send email to correct server
  • NetScreen configured to send to correct email address recipients
Symptoms & Errors:
  • Not receiving email alerts

Solution:

You may not be receiving email alerts for one of the following reasons:

  • If the email server is not online, check the network configuration of the email server.
  • If the email server is online, enable email service on the email server.
  • Email alerts may not be properly configured on the NetScreen device. For more information, go to Configuring Email Alert Notifications.
  • If the email alert is not functioning properly in transparent mode, verify that the NetScreen device can ping the email server. If the NetScreen cannot ping the email server, you need to add a network static route on the NetScreen. This can be configured via the WebUI or the Command Line Interface (CLI).

note: For this example, the NetScreen is placed inside a 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 network.

To add a static network route via the WebUI, perform the following steps:

Open the WebUI. For more information on accessing the WebUI, go to Accessing Your NetScreen Using the WebUI.

From the NetScreen options menu, click Network, select Routing, and then click Routing Entries.

To add a static network route via the CLI, perform the following steps:

Open the CLI. For more information on how to open the CLI, go to Accessing the Command Line Interface Using Telnet.

From the CLI, enter the following command; press ENTER.

set route 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 [Enter]
