[ScreenOS] Does the NetScreen in NSRP support gratuitous ARP?

Article ID: KB6569 KB Last Updated: 26 Dec 2020Version: 5.0
Does the NetScreen in NSRP support gratuitous ARP?

Problem Environment:

  • NSRP failover
  • gratuitous arp parameter

Gratuitous ARPs are sent out from a device to notify the rest of the network it is still there.  The receiving device that has an ARP cache entry for the sending device will update its cache entry.  In the case of failover (such as with an NSRP environment), an ARP broadcast is sent, notifying the associated network devices of the MAC address of a new primary.  An ARPs will also be sent out when a device boots up or is rebooted after an upgrade.

To configure the number of ARPs sent out after a failover in NSRP, issue the following command:

set nsrp arp

The default is 4
