Article ID: KB6633 KB Last Updated: 07 Oct 2016Version: 6.0
Summary:

This article explains where to view the results from the command, 'exec nsrp sync <options>'.

Solution:

ScreenOS 6.1 and below:

Output messages of "exec nsrp sync ..." are shown with a console connection to firewalls running version ScreenOS 4.0.0 through 6.1.0.
When the same commands are executed in a telnet or SSH session, no command output is displayed.  However, there is a workaround, noted in item 3 below.

For example:

  1. Connect to a device through console and TELNET.

  2. In the console connection, the results of the commands are displayed:
    ns5200(B)-> configuration in sync (local checksum 789579268 == remote checksum 789579268)
    sync all files from peer done

    Received all run-time-object from peer.

    configuration in sync (local checksum 789579268 == remote checksum 789579268)
    load peer system config to save
    Save global configuration successfully.
    Save local configuration successfully.
    done.
    Please reset your box to let cluster configuration take effect!

  3. In the TELNET terminal, the results of the commands are not displayed:
    ns5200(B)-> exec nsrp sync rto all from peer
    ns5200(B)-> exec nsrp sync file from peer
    ns5200(B)-> exec nsrp sync global-config check-sum
    ns5200(B)-> exec nsrp sync global-config save
    Note: The output of the commands can be displayed in the 'get log sys' command output.  Note the timestamps in the output.  Also, after running the "exec nsrp sync global-config check-sum" command you can run the 'get db str' to see the sync status of the cluster without using the 'get sys log' command.
    The behavior was corrected in ScreenOS 6.2.

ScreenOS 6.2.0:

Starting in ScreenOS 6.2.0, you can view the results of "exec nsrp sync ..." through a TELNET and SSH session window. See examples below that display the differences between the 6.1.0 code and 6.2.0.
  1. Connect to backup device using TELNET or SSH.

  2. In TELNET or SSH window, issue the following commands:
    ns5200(B)-> exec nsrp sync global-config check-sum
    ns5200(B)-> configuration in sync
    ns5200(B)-> exec nsrp sync global-config save
    ns5200(B)-> load peer system config to save
    Save global configuration successfully.
    Continue to save local configurations ...
    Save local configuration successfully.
    done.<
    Please reset your box to let cluster configuration take effect!

    As you can see, the results of the commands issued in the 6.2.0 code now will display in an SSH or TELNET window (as well as the console if you're using it).
