What types of VPN tunnels are supported in VPN groups?

  • LAN-to-LAN dynamic peer
  • L2TP
  • L2TP-over-IPSec
  • Dialup-to-LAN
  • Manual key VPN

Symptoms and errors:

  • Problem creating VPN groups
  • Unsupported VPN tunnels
Cause:

Solution:

This solution applies to all ScreenOS versions.

ScreenOS supports the following VPN tunnels to be used in VPN groups:

  • LAN-to-LAN VPN (policy-based using IKE heartbeat)
  • LAN-to-LAN dynamic peer VPN (policy-based using IKE heartbeat)

The following VPN tunnels are not supported in creating VPN groups for redundant gateways:

  • L2TP
  • L2TP-over-IPSec
  • Dialup-to-LAN
  • Manual key VPN
  • Route-based VPN
  • VPN using DPD (Dead Peer Detection)

  • Note:  Both sides of the VPN tunnel must be a ScreenOS Firewall device.
