Summary:
IPSEC pass-thru behavior change in ScreenOS 5.0rx
Symptoms:
ipsec pass-thru behavior change Returning ESP traffic does not match created session Debug shows " packet dropped, denied by policy " When upgrading from ScreenOS 4.x to 5.0.0r1, ESP traffic through Netscreen Firewall stops
Solution:

Create policy for returning ESP traffic

Example:

 set policy id 5 from "Untrust" to "Global"  "Any" "MIP(11.11.11.2)" "my_ESP" Permit

Here is the problem or goal:

  • When upgrading from ScreenOS 4.x to 5.0.0r1, ESP traffic through Netscreen Firewall stops

Problem Environment:

  • ipsec pass-thru behavior change
  • Returning ESP traffic does not match created session
  • Debug shows " packet dropped, denied by policy "
