Environment:

  • MGSoft

Symptoms & Errors:

  • All of nsPlyMonEntry entries return with value of "0"
  • Traffic is initiated to match the configured policies
  • Need to monitor firewall policies via' SNMP' .
Solution:

To configure traffic utilization per policy for SNMP walk, perform the following steps:

Open the WebUI. For more information on accessing the WebUI, go to Accessing Your NetScreen Using the WebUI.

From the ScreenOS options menu, click Configuration, select Report Settings, and then click SNMP.

Click New Community.

In the Community Name text box, enter a community name.

Enter your community name information in the text boxes and drop-down menus provided.

From the NetScreen options menu, click Policies.

In the policy that you want to configure SNMP walk, click Edit.

Click Advanced.

Click to select Counting.

Click OK.
note:After configuration, you can use the SNMP application to execute a SNMP walk. Remember to initiate the traffic for matching the monitoring policy. You can verify the traffic statistic matching the policy by viewing the reporting output from the WebUI.


From the ScreenOS options menu, click Policies.

note:Under View Detail, click an icon to view the details.

note:There is a reported known issue on ScreenOS 5.0.x and above with receiving the correct format (Counter 32 on nsPlyMonTotalByte) of SNMP values on SNMP applications.
