Why Do I Get Garbled Characters on the XAuth Login Prompt?
Symptoms:

Symptoms & Errors:

  • Garbled characters in Xauth login prompt
Solution:

You may see "garbled" characters on the XAuth Login prompt if you have CHAP enabled when using the local user database. 

To clear up this problem, change the IKE Gateway setting so that CHAP is not enabled.

If you use the default settings, go into VPNs > AutoKey Advanced > XAuth Settings, and de-select CHAP.

If you use local authentication, deselect "CHAP Only"
