How to use BGP for automatic routing through Full Meshed VPN using NSM

The steps to creating a LAN to LAN VPN with NetScreen-Security Manager (NSM):

  1. Follow the KB linked below to use VPN manager to create a Fully-Meshed, Route-Based VPN Using NSM:

  2. To use BGP for automatic routing through Full Meshed VPN using NSM .... within NSM VPN Manager, choose Overrides > Device Configuration

  3. Edit the tunnel interface for each firewall:

  4. Make each tunnel interface numbered with a non-routable IP address. Each tunnel can be in its own network:

  5. From Device Manager > FW Device > Network > Virtual Router > Edit Trust-vr > Dynamic Routing Protocol > BGP: :
    1. Select Enable BGP
    2. Assign an AS Number
    3. Deselect Synchronization

  6. BGP > Networks > Define local LAN networks to advertise:

  7. BGP >Neighbors: Define Neighbor as reachable through the corresponding firewalls Tunnel IP address:
    1. Select Peer Enabled
    2. Specify remote tunnel IP address
    3. Specify Remote AS number (Use the same AS for all your iBGP routes)
    4. Specify local address, mask, and outgoing tunnel interface.

  8. Define Static Routes to remote each Firewalls tunnel ip address:

  9. Enable BGP routing protocol on the tunnel interface:

  10. Repeat steps 2 – 9 for each firewall.
