Webtrends is not logging events coming in from NetScreen

This article provides suggestions on troubleshooting a logging issue between a Webtrends server and a NetScreen device.

  • Webtrends is configured on the NetScreen
  • many event logs posted on the NetScreen
  • log file on Webtrends is pointing to a mapped drive

Symptoms & Errors:
  • Sniffer trace taken between the NetScreen and Webtrends server indicates the logs are passing through
  • Webtrends is not logging the events

Determine if the logs are being sent out through the NetScreen by either
a) issuing the CLI debug command:     debug webtrends basic
b) take a sniffer trace

Check to see if the log events show up in the payload of any of the packets.  If it does, then verify where the logs are being written to on the Webtrends server.  Make sure the location specified is a local drive on the server.  If some other mapped drive is specified, Webtrends will not write the logs.
