ScreenOS: What are the 64-bit counters for, displayed when performing an SNMPWALK?

When performing SNMPWALK to obtain SNMP Interface counters, a set of 64-bit counters is displayed. What are these counters for?

The SNMP counters are displayed as 32 bit in/out packets and in/out octet counters per interface.  Beginning with ScreenOS 5.3.0, additional 64-bit counters were introduced for interface hardware counters as it can be seen in the example below:

It is possible to monitor these via SNMP using the Interface Group MIB from RFC2863, which includes the “High Capacity” groups. (e.g. “in bytes” from output above corresponds to high capacity counter "ifHCInOctets”).
