Cannot download Kaspersky AV pattern updates. Getting "AV Pattern file too large" error.

Cannot download Kaspersky AV pattern updates.  Getting "AV Pattern file too large" error.  It appears there is not enough memory on flash for the update.
NetScreen-5GT with ScreenOS 5.3.0r2.  Running the command 'exec vfs ls flash:' showed the  free memory was less than 7MB.   AV-Kaspersky (AV-K) update requires at least 8MB.  With normal flash objects, the free memory of the firewall should be approximately 14-15MB.

To resolve the low free memory issue, begin by confirming that multiple ScreenOS versions are not loaded into flash.   If there are multiple files, remove them with the following command:

exec vfs unlink <filename>

If you still do not have enough memory then check the AV-K directory for any files that are larger than expected. 

 exec vfs ls /kav_db

For example
fa.armMFhMU3pucGRJNzFmQjMwMGU3VXdqMXA1N0YrMlhLV 1puVmdDZ2JiWXpueGJyKzIzVm15NGVPSkpMZA==#19705 8,515,447

Note the last part of the entry, 8,515,447, displays the file size.  The fa.arm file in this case was over 8.5MB whereas it is expected the fa.arm file should be closer to 22KB.  Delete any such files with the following commands:

exec vfs cd kav_db
exec vfs unlink fa.armMFhMU3pucGRJNzFmQjMwMGU3VXdqMXA1N0YrMlhLV1puVmdDZ2JiWXpueGJyKzIzVm15NGVPSkpMZA==#19705
exec vfs ls .
exec vfs cd /

If there are still issues, it could be a corrupt flash disk.  Try the following command:

exec vfs unlink flash:/kav_db/avp.set

After executing the command, reboot the firewall.
