[ScreenOS] USB Flash Size Supported on SSG Platform.

Article ID: KB9554 KB Last Updated: 18 Apr 2017Version: 8.0

Is there a limit or list of USB devices that is supported with the SSG platform?

Some higher capacity USB flash do not seem to work with the SSG platforms.

The USB drive is USB 2.0 compliant. This is applicable to SSG-5, SSG-20, SSG-140, SSG-520, and SSG-550.

Ensure that the USB drive partition is:

  • less than or equal to 4 GB
  • Formatted as FAT32
  • USBs up to size 4 GB are supported by SSG devices. But for sending debugs to USB, use a USB less than or equal to 2GB.

SSG-> get db usb
Can not support bigger than 2G USB

  • For collecting memory dumps, the only supported partition of USB is FAT16. Otherwise, you will see the following error:

SSG-> set core-dump usb full coredump.bin 500
Wrong FAT format, please make sure use FAT16.

  • For debug log collection to USB, partitions that are FAT16 and FAT32 are supported with USB size less than or equal to 2 GB.

Note: A 3rd-party application may be required to reformat/partition the USB drive. Supported partition type/size may differ when using USB to collect the debugs. Please refer to KB12277 -  How to send debug output information to USB drive.

For assistance collecting full memory dump via USB, please refer to KB12496 - [ScreenOS] How to save the full memory dump to a USB drive for SSG platform.

Modification History:

2017-04-05: Added USB size requirements, file size info for the memory dump, and reference link to KB12496

2017-03-28: Added reference link to KB12277 in the solution.
