Why is the GTP IMSI and APN filter not working?

Article ID: KB9633 KB Last Updated: 24 Jun 2010Version: 3.0
Summary:

In a GTP inspection object it is possible to create a filter on IMSI (International Mobile Station Identity) and APN (Access Point Name) in order to restrict GPRS access through the firewall. The filter applies to 'create pdp request' messages that are inspected by the GTP object.

An IMSI comprises three elements: the Mobile Country Code (MCC), the Mobile Network Code (MNC), and the Mobile Subscriber Identification Number (MSIN). The MCC and MNC combined constitute the IMSI prefix and identify the mobile subscriber’s home network, or Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN).

The IMSI and APN filter does not have an implicit deny.

Solution:

Because this type of filter does not have an implicit deny, the following line must be added if a deny statement is necessary at the end of the filter:
set apn "*" drop

A filter can for example look like this:

set mcc-mnc 12345 apn "*mobiphone.com" pass
set apn "*" drop
