[ScreenOS] Syslog Behavior with Devices in an NSRP Cluster

Article ID: KB14273 KB Last Updated: 14 Feb 2021Version: 3.0
Syslog server is set up to log events from both primary and backup.
What types of logs will be sent to the Syslog server from Primary and Backup?
In order to send logs from the primary and Backup firewall to a Syslog server, a unique manage-ip must be configured on the primary and backup device (different than the actual physical IP address of the interface).  For more information on configuring a Manage IP address, refer to KB4059 - Configuring a Manage IP Address on Juniper firewall.  Once this is set up, all events and traffic logs on the primary device can be sent to the Syslog server.  On the backup device, only event logs can be sent to the Syslog server.

If there is a requirement to send other system logs from the Backup device to the syslog server, an additional command is required:

set syslog backup enable

This command will enable non-event logs to be sent to the syslog server.

For information on changes in behavior with this command, refer to KB14350 - Syslog behavior change in NSRP backup device.
