[ScreenOS] Webauth redirect does not support HTTPS

Article ID: KB22667 KB Last Updated: 24 Apr 2012Version: 1.0
This article describes the issue of Webauth redirect not supporting HTTPS.
  • Webauth redirect is configured in a policy.

  • For HTTP traffic, the users are redirected to the webauth page and after successful authentication, are able to access the desired website.

  • However, webauth fails for HTTPS.

  • This issue is seen in Transparent, as well as Layer3 modes of the firewall.

  • This is a design/protocol limitation.

  • For HTTP traffic, the firewall is able to intercept the packet and read the URL part of it (HTTP is clear-text).

  • For HTTPS traffic, the firewall is unable to read the URL, as it is encrypted; so the authentication is incomplete.
