Whitepapers / Application Notes
Cross-Domain VPLS Deployment Strategies:
Summary: There are several methods for using BGP virtual private LAN service (VPLS) to scale VPLS in an existing LDP-VPLS network. These methods do not require any changes on LDP-VPLS provider edge (PE) routers, but rather enable VPLS to scale by using BGP VPLS and using LDP-BGP VPLS interworking. BGP VPLS can also be used to extend the reach of VPLS from a single LDP-VPLS metro domain to the intermetro WAN. This scheme allows service providers to offer regional or national VPLS in an economical, efficient, and scalable manner.

Configuring Inter-AS VPLS with MAC Processing at the ASBR:
Summary: This document provides a step-by-step procedure to configure interAS VPLS with MAC processing at the ASBR between BGP-signaled VPLS and LDP-signaled VPLS. This layer 2 service is described in RFC 4761 as multi-AS VPLS option E or method E. The protocols configured are EBGP, IBGP, OSPF, LDP, and PIM. The example includes steps to test the operation of MBGP Multicast VPN Extranets.

Next-Generation VPLS Using Point-to-Multipoint LSPs for Unicast and Multicast Forwarding:
Summary: This document provides a step-by-step procedure to configure and verify the operation of Next-generation VPLS. The protocols configured are MPLS, RSVP, BGP, and OSPF. The example includes steps to verify the VPLS data plane and forwarding plane.

Configuring BGP Autodiscovery for LDP VPLS:
Summary: This document Describes how to configure BGP autodiscovery for LDP VPLS and user-defined mesh groups for BGP autodiscovery for LDP VPLS as specified in Forwarding Equivalence Class 129.

Validating a BGP-Based VPLS Multihoming Configuration:
Summary: This document Provides an overview of VPLS, a configuration example, and steps to validate a multihomed VPLS connection using the CLI and SNMP.
