Article ID: KB31832 KB Last Updated: 27 Aug 2019Version: 2.0
Summary:

This article explains how to make a bootable USB from NFX software via NFX/Linux/MAC-OS-X machine.

Solution:
  1. Copy the NFX Software (.img format) to your NFX /Linux/MAC-OS-X machine. (example NFX Software = install-media-usb-nfx-2-flex-15.1X53-D45.3.secure-domestic.img)

  2. Insert USB drive to your NFX /Linux/MAC-OS-X

  3. Burn NFX Software to the USB drive using dd command

    1. fdisk -l (to find the USB drive e.g. /dev/sdb) or use lsblk
    2. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/<PARTITION> bs=1M count=1 (example .PARTITION = sdb)
    3. dd if=<LOCATION>/install-media-usb-nfx-2-flex-15.1X53-D45.3.secure-domestic.img of=/dev/<PARTITION> bs=1M (LOCATION = Locally whether image is stored ,like /var/tmp/ )

The following example shows how to make a bootable USB from NFX software if the image is already copied to JDM
  1. Copy NFX image from JDM to hypervisor. The command is executed in JDM

    root@jdm:/var/log# scp install-media-usb-nfx-2-flex-15.1X53-D45.3.secure-domestic.img root@hypervisor:/var/log/

    install-media-usb-nfx-2-flex-15.1X53-D45.3.secure-domestic.img 100% 1400MB 155.6MB/s 00:09
  2. Burn NFX Software to the USB drive using dd command

    root@jdm:~# lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
    sda 8:0 0 372.6G 0 disk
    |-sda1 8:1 0 189.8M 0 part
    |-sda2 8:2 0 976.6M 0 part
    |-sda3 8:3 0 1.9M 0 part
    |-sda4 8:4 0 1.4G 0 part
    |-sda5 8:5 0 5.7G 0 part /host/log
    |-sda6 8:6 0 7.6G 0 part /
    `-sda7 8:7 0 356.7G 0 part /var
    sdb 8:16 1 3.8G 0 disk <-- USB drive
    `-sdb1 8:17 1 1.4G 0 part

    root@jdm:/var/log# jhost dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1M count=1
    root@jdm:/var/log# jhost dd if=/var/log/install-media-usb-nfx-2-flex-15.1X53-D45.3.secure-domestic.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M
