[ScreenOS] How to create a 'get tech' file

Article ID: KB6273 KB Last Updated: 28 Mar 2019Version: 9.0
The get tech file is used to troubleshoot issues with the ScreenOS device.  A get tech file contains configuration settings, counters, and more; all these parameters are useful in debugging a situation.
  • GET TECH file

  • Tech Support Troubleshooting

  • Need in-depth troubleshooting

  • Need to open a service request with JTAC and a get tech file is requested.

To produce a get tech file, perform either of the following procedures:

Without the TFTP server:

  1. Log on to the ScreenOS device, either by Telnet or a terminal software via the Console port.

  2. Turn on the text capture feature of the Telnet or terminal software.

  3. Issue the following commands on the firewall:
ssg> set console page 0 > Otherwise the default page size will be applicable and you have to
press ENTER often to reach the end of the file
    ssg> get tech
ssg> unset console page > This will reset the page size to the default value
Save the capture to a file.

  4. Attach the file via My Juniper Service Request Manager that has been opened for this issue. Your Technical support contact will assist with additional troubleshooting

With the TFTP server:

If the configuration is too big, then the output of get tech may take some time to finish. In such cases, you can also redirect the output of the get tech file to a TFTP server by using the following command (which will make the process quicker)
ssg>  get tech > tftp <TFTP server IP-Address> <Filename>
To collect get tech via the WebUI, perform the following procedure:
  1. Logon to the ScreenOS device via WebUI.

  2. Go to Help >Ask Support.

  3. Click the Get Tech button:

  4. Save the file to your local PC.
