[ScreenOS] Steps to create Cross-Reference Table of MIB to OID Relationships for MRTG or other SNMP tools

Article ID: KB6590 KB Last Updated: 14 Jul 2011Version: 7.0
Is there a Cross-Reference Table for MIB to OID Relationships?
SNMP MRTG can't find a MIB to OID mapping
For a standard set of NetScreen MIBs, you may refer to following article:
KB20992 - Cross-reference table for MIB to OID relationships

A cross reference table can be created for all the Netscreen MIB's to use with MRTG or other SNMP-based tools as follows:

Download the latest MIB definition. To download the MIB definitions, go to Enterprise MIBs and select ScreenOS Software MIBs for the Netscreen Products.

Install the MIBs on your Network Monitoring System ISM. Typically, the MIBs will reside under this location:
Set the environment variable to load the MIBs.
export MIBS=ALL
The 'export' command applies to BASH (Bourne Again Shell); the command for each shell program may differ.

Perform a MIB walk on the desired MIBs to be cross-referenced. For example, to walk the complete enterprise MIB and produce the output in a readable format, issue the following:
bash# snmpwalk -0b netscreen
Viewing the results produced for the memory-free OID generates the following:
The last step is to convert the information to a numerical format for use with Multi-Router Traffic
Grapher (MRTG) or any SNMP capable tool or script. To convert to a numerical format, use the following command:
bash# snmpget -On enterprises.netscreen.netscreenResource.nsResMem.nsResMemLeft [enter]
The resulting output produces the following:
. = 34983088
